1. We’re obsessed with the hat collection of local artist Kristin Diable. So much so, we’re adding this hat to our wishlist.
2. We’re never opposed to combining humor and fashion.
3. Bucket bags are on trend this season. This Tory Burch version is our pick.
4. Need a new make up bag? This one can pull double duty as a clutch.

6. Seriously needing a pedicure this hump day. Not just for my toes, but also my sanity.
7. These cat-eye lovelies prove life really is better through rose-colored glasses.
8. We’re feeling reminiscent of the early seasons of Mad Men with this flattering and feminine skirt.
9. This is what we’ll be wearing to Lollapalooza this weekend. Comfort and keeping cool are key.

Kickstart your Career and Look Great Doing it!

Dress to Impress

Starting out a career often feels like a bit of a roller-coaster full of excitement, disappointment, mistakes, learning, and so much more. It is sometimes tough to know exactly where to go next and how to get what you want in the end. As two girls working our way up in the world, the VOF team can attest to this great advice from Forbes.

As for what to wear, VOF loves the looks featured above. Make sure to dress for your specific career and put a bit of personal flair into anything you wear.

1. The Designer and Architect. Try out color and Prints. Don’t be afraid to stand out and show your personality. After all, your overall style is why your clients will inevitably hire you.

2. The Marketer and PR Expert. Marketing and PR fall somewhere in the middle. They are creative fields, but are still set in a business environment. Try out more subtle colors with a hint of texture and bling.

3. The Lawyer and High Powered Business Woman. These fields require keeping it tasteful. Try stepping away from the suit and adding a textured jacket with a fun watch to add some personality to your look.

Kitchen Update

Kitchen Update
Who says a kitchen renovation needs to involve sledgehammers and seemingly endless home depot runs? This week, we bring you the quickest way to update our favorite space, the kitchen. When you think accessories, your kitchen appliances probably don’t come to mind, but they should! The pieces you display on your counter top dictate the feel of your space. While my own kitchen space runs on the classic side (red lacquer stand mixer, chrome toaster), I sometimes crave a more industrial, organic look like those pieces featured above.Don’t be afraid to rotate pieces through your kitchen like you might throw pillows on your sofa.
Another way to change the look of your kitchen is to use open shelving for your dishware and glasses. C and I both took the plunge on the trend and love the look and functionality of it. It works like a charm for teensy kitchens, like ours. Keep the look clean by using a single, matching set of dishware, or go for a more eclectic feel with mismatched, but complimentary dishes. Check out these examples and follow their links for more inspiration:

The Friday Report

Sometimes life gets really hectic and you have to take just a few minutes to step back and clear your head. Although I see some overtime in my future this weekend (bleh), I’ll be spending Sunday picking figs and making jam with the beau and his gram. I feel soooo southern. Living here has taught me that I don’t always need to have fifty things going on at once, sometimes you have to learn how to relax. How will you relax this weekend?

These genetics photos are fascinating.

Finally, a course we can get excited about: this watercolors class, taught by a former classmate of ours, combines our passion for fashion and art. For more inspiration, see her website Paperfashion.

Wednesday Wish List

Wednesday Wish List

1. Okay, I can’t stay away from floral if you haven’t noticed yet. Combine that with a high-waisted bikini and I’m completely smitten. Check out this lovely from Net-A-Porter.

2. This may look like a blanket, but it’s actually the beautiful Fouta Towel from One King’s Lane. We’ll take ten.

3. I love this moss covered letter, partially because it’s a “W,” but mostly because I think it would make for awesome decor for our wedding (that could then be reused in our living room).

4. I’ve long been a fan of Paper Crown. This skirt transitions from work to play, the office to happy hour, brunch to farmers market.

5. I’m currently in talks with wedding caterers, and when I’m not day dreaming about food, I’m day dreaming about this flatware, and how perfect it would look with gold-rimmed glasses or plates.

6. In college I lived by my planner. If it wasn’t listed there, it didn’t happen. As a life-long list maker, I still get giddy at the thought of a cute planner. May Designs has struck gold with these personalized notebooks.

7. Beignets have earned a spot on this week’s wish list because the fiance was in NOLA for work this week and because beignets are delicious. That is all.

8. We’ve been feeling a bit wishy-washy about this throwback trend, but we can at least admit overalls make the perfect cover up for a day at the beach.

That’s all ladies. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be dedicating our wish lists to the perfect weekend getaway essentials in preparation for some last minute summer trips. Get excited, because we sure are!

The Friday Report

lights
It’s finally Friday. This week, I opted out of my work out routine in favor of making delicious food (check back next week for a mouth-watering polenta recipe), watching reality television, and scouring the interweb the perfect content for this week’s Friday Report. Seems like a fair trade, right? (My body disagrees, seeing as it has a date with a swim suit this weekend.) Since there’s no point in dwelling in the past, I present to you, lovely followers, the Friday Report:

I stumbled upon (not to be confused with StumbleUpon) some beautifully crafted checklists from Matchbook Magazine this week. They’re after my OCD, list-making heart. This tricky fashion name pronunciation worksheet in particular caught my eye.

Officially the best tumblr find of the summer.

Okay, If you haven’t met Quinoa, the imaginary well-dressed pinterest daughter of writer Tiffany Beveridge, you need to. She’s amassed more followers than any other toddler I know. Then go check out, Tiffany’s equally funny blog.

I think I’ll host a party just to use these free printables from Love vs. Design. We’ll take one of everything this talented design team produces.

Since Amanda Bynes has mysteriously stayed out of the spotlight for a few days, all eyes are on Miley. Thanks Fashionista for filling us in on every last fashion decision our favorite twerk-er makes. We admit to having a love-cringe relationship with her We Can’t Stop vid.

Add this German duo to your work day playlist. You won’t regret it.

Easily the easiest and most delicious recipe of the summer.

Lastly, it’s Friday night ladies, so follow our lead.

Wednesday Wish List

Wednesday Wish List
For those of you looking for a midweek pick-me-up, look no further. We’re feeling a little jealous of kids on summer break, so we’re taking a mental vacation this morning to bring you some playful picks on our current wishlist.
1. SMP’s funfetti cake and icing ice cream recipe really has us drooling. On second thought, It calls for three hours of prep time, so perhaps we’ll head to Baskin-Robbins instead.
2. I “invested” in some heart-shaped sunglasses while C and I were at Mardi Gras in New Orleans this spring (see proof here, although C’s pearl sunglasses take the cake). While the pink pair above are the epitome of fun, Nordstrom also provides an every day alternative. I totally admit I’ve worn them many times since.
3. A few months ago I stumbled across a college-town bar that had an over-sized set of Jenga blocks. Needless to say, I was hooked. CB2 sells an grown-up version of the game. They call them tumbling towers, but we all know it as Jenga (we’re onto you CB2).
4. There’s a special place in my heart for Kate Spade’s graphic clutches. Who knew a clutch could make you laugh and be so chic all at once. Thanks to C, I have my own personal Arm Candy.
5. Loving how See by Chloe turns orange into a neutral with this sandal.
6. A little color therapy can really brighten one’s mood. Nasty Gal does just that with this silky watercolor shift, plus we’re head over heels for the exposed rose gold zipper in the back.
7.  These Tory Burch studs make the perfect gift for someone with a summer birthday. I like to shop with the one pair for you, one pair for me mentality 😉
8. My usual problem with DIYs is that everything I craft ends up looking homemade. Style Me Pretty Living provides a wealth of DIY ideas that look sleek and store bought, like this abstract painting DIY.
Hope you’re surviving the work week. Don’t forget to have a little fun!
