As we mentioned last week, we’re currently training for the Aramco Half Marathon in Houston, TX (next weekend! Ahh, cue the anxiety). We’ve been following a pretty standard training schedule, and I’ve found that the best compliment to my running has been yoga and pilates. Yoga (and stretching in general) will reduce your chance of injury while helping you maintain flexibility and strengthen your core. My pilates instructor pointed me to the following routine to utilize leading up to the race. Print out this 25-30 minute routine and take it with you next time you go to the gym (or save a tree and download the app!)
We also discovered this great video from Runner’s World (although the very idea of reading a magazine about running sounds pretty appalling to me, my apologies to all you die-hard runners out there). This video provides a 25-minute routine of basic yoga to use as a cool down after your run.
We’d love to hear what you plan to do to stay fit and injury free in 2014. Let us know in the comments!
