The Friday Report

via design crush

Happy Friday! C & I are deep in the throws of wedding planning, and I’m quickly discovering my sanity level is closely correlated with the number of boxes I’ve checked on my checklist. Wedding season in Oregon is a really miniature time window, taking the stress of getting your top choice of vendors to a whole new level. My advice to future brides? If you’ve just got to have your wedding during busy season, plan your wedding for a Friday (if you plan to have your guests booze it up) or Sunday (if you’re looking for a more laid back, brunch wedding). Fridays and Sundays mean way less competition for vendors and venues.

Reception napkins have been the recent focus of debate, but these napkins are so great it makes the choice seem easy.

Brown butter brussels sprouts pasta with hazelnuts. Tell me that doesn’t sound delicious.

Would it be weird to start using these Oscars straws for everyday use? Think of the possibilities! Why yes, that is Ryan Gosling hanging out on my straw…

Speaking of Oscars, can I commission this little designer to create a reception dress for me?

OMG, go eat a cronut for me tomorrow, C.

Our Favorite Spring Bouquets

Here at VOF, we are ready for spring. It’s been pretty balmy in our neck(s) of the woods lately (sorry, Northerners), so we thought we’d put together some floral inspiration to match our cheerful moods. Enjoy!

City E-Session Inspiration

This past week I got a little obsessive over city engagement sessions while doing some research for a friend. Obviously C & I love our outdoor, natural settings (as you can see in our e-sessions here and here), but part of me secretly wants to go for round two in an urban setting. Cityscapes lend themselves to more formal attire, more candid photos, and sometimes even a air of romance. Check out the collection below for some tips on making the most of a urban e-session! Click through the photos for links to even more inspiration and details on these talented photographers.

100lc3Do you really need an excuse to order a milkshake?

100lc1smp3A no-fail photo op? Find a stunning backdrop, grab your S.O. and plant one on them.

smp1smp2 This photo is so simple, no props, no formal wear, but I love it. It truly looks like a scene from what could be their everyday lives.

100lc6Skyscrapers not necessary, storefronts with character may be all you need!

Before you run off in search of the perfect field or barn, consider what your own city or neighborhood has to offer. It might surprise you!  If you’re having trouble thinking of creative backdrops, consult your photographer. They may have a go-to location that consistently produces stunning results, or perhaps they have a place in mind they’ve been dying to do an e-session. You won’t know unless you ask!

Blush & Indigo Wedding Inspiration

Once you’re gotten most of your major vendors booked, you can really focus on the fun part of the wedding planning process – design and styling. There’s no lack of inspiration out there, particularly on some of our favorite wedding sites, Snippet & Ink, Style Me Pretty, and 100 Layer Cake. One of the most helpful ways to hone in on your vision and to share that vision with others is to create an inspiration board. Pretty much every blush/white/gold wedding I see makes me swoon, but I’m spotting that wedding palette pretty regularly these days (read: lots of swooning). To do something a little different, add some accents in a contrasting color. I’m loving both deep hues and vibrant colors this season. Click through the pictures below for more information and inspiration (I spy some work of our very favorite Amanda O’Shannessy). Enjoy!

Sunday Savings

This weekend has been crazy for S and I . We officially finished our wedding registry, a long, fun, tedious and, at times, stressful task to say the least. It feels good to be done and ready to move on to the next steps in wedding planning. Sorry for this coming to you so late today, but I hope you enjoy some of our favorite sale items from this week!

Steven & Colleen’s Southern California Engagement Session

Today, we are happy to share S and C’s engagement photos with you. These beauties were shot by the lovely Jessica Peterson at Malibu Creek State Park this past November. C focused on using personal touches when setting up her table arrangement for S and her to enjoy some tea and cupcakes during the session. For those of you who have been following for awhile, you may remember this DIY Glitter Banner. The “I Do” and “Me Too” forks were a special gift to S and C for their engagement and made the perfect addition to the table. Enjoy!

Getting Fit in 2014

Everyone knows that after all the sweets and parties over the Holidays, January is the time to get back on track and feel healthy again. For those of you who read our New Year’s Resolutions, you know that W and I are working to get toned this year before we walk down the isle. The first step to that… working out. W and I will be running a half marathon along with 4 of our best friends. So here it goes, our shameless plug: we are raising money for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a philanthropy we all hold close to our hearts. The race is in 2 weeks, so the clock is ticking… We need help raising money for this amazing organization. If you are at all interested in helping out, we’d more than appreciative. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.

On that note, to making working out more fun, I always like to start with some cute workout clothes. Here are some of my favorites  ON SALE right now. You can look cute and get a great deal too.

VOF’s New Year’s Resolutions

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year! Sorry we took a hiatus over the Holiday Season. I know you all understand how crazy it can get. We hope that you all had a safe and fun Holiday with your friends and family. W and I were both lucky enough to get to travel back home and be with our loved ones. It was a nice relaxing break full of snow, wine and desserts, but sadly all good things have to come to an end. So, here we are, back to reality. As we enter 2014, W and I both have some resolutions that we want to share with you.

  1. BLOG. Before starting VOF, W and I talked about doing this for a long time. In 2013, we took the step to get this thing going, but it is now time to really see how far we can take it. So stay tuned for lots more from VOF in 2014.
  2. READ. We admit it, reading is not our strong point. We always make excuses before bed, but this year that will change. We will read at least 30 minutes before bed each night.
  3. GET STRONG. You all know that the VOF girls will be walking down the isle this year and it will come faster than either of us realize. Of course, dieting is always a thing for brides, but we not only want to be slim. We want to be toned. Let the workouts begin!
  4. STOP SHOPPING. W and I both love to shop, trust us. This one will be tough, but we all know how expensive weddings can be.  We can save a lot of money by not buying the unnecessary extras. I guess we’ll have to live vicariously through you and the Wednesday Wishlist. 😉
  5. STOP BUYING LUNCH. It is easy to get in the habit of buying lunch at work. When you are tired in the morning, packing lunch does not always feel like the ideal thing to do, but that $10 3-4 times a week really starts to add up. Stay tuned for some great recipes that make excellent lunch leftovers.

These 25 New Year’s Resolutions Every Person Should Actually Make for 2104 from Elite Daily, also has some great ideas that the VOF girls will definitely be taking to heart. We’d love to hear what your resolutions are as well, so let us know what you think!

Cheers to 2013 from VOF!

How much booze do you really need? (answer: more than you think)

Hmmm, we think this calls for a taste test…

Calling all brides-to-be! Can you accurately guess the number of beers your future hubby’s frat-boy friends will toss back during your reception? How about your wino “book” club ladies?
